Harborough MP Visiting HMP Gartree Today

Harborough’s MP will meet staff and members of the Prison Officers Association during a visit to HMP Gartree today.

Neil O’Brien has been invited to tour the jail by the Independent Monitoring Board, made up of a team of volunteers who regularly visit.

It published a concerning report earlier this year, blaming a rise in violence on a lack of staff and the availability of psychoactive drug Spice among inmates.

It’s the first time an MP has visited the prison.

The visit comes a few weeks after officers walked out to join a national protest called by the POA over escalating violence.
