Government To Decide On ‘Adam’s Mile’

The government is to decide whether or not a safe foot and cycle path can be built between Lubenham and Market Harborough, in memory of a 13-year-old boy, who was killed while cycling to school.

The 12-year campaign by the family of Adam Mugridge received a massive boost last September, when highway bosses officially recognised the mile-long route – along the old railway line – as a public right of way.

The owner of the majority of the land it will go through has lodged an objection though, meaning the matter has been referred to the Department of Housing, Communites and Local Government.

Adam’s family have raised over £100,000 towards the cost of creating the path, after setting up the Adam Smile charity following his death in 2006 when he was involved in collision with a lorry just outside Lubenham on his way to Welland Park Academy.

It’s not yet known when the government will make a decision.
