A new ‘Friendship Park’ is set to be created in Market Harborough town centre.

Harborough District Council is behind the plan for land it owns on Northampton Road, adjacent to the Market Hall car park.

The area which could be transformed into the park

It would see new trees and shrubs planted, gravel walkways put down and benches installed.

Signs would also be erected to encourage people to speak to someone if they are sitting alone.

The site, which had previously been suggested as a location for a coach park, was cleared earlier this year over concerns about anti-social behaviour and some dying and dangerous trees were felled.

Cllr Darren Woodiwiss, cabinet member for Environmental and Climate Change. spoke to HFM:

A final decision on the plan will be taken by the council’s Cabinet.
