Former Post Office Worker Who Stole Over £29k Escapes Jail

A former worker at Kibworth Post Office has escaped jail after defrauding the business out of nearly £30,000.

Dawn Powell, 30, was instead given a two year suspended prison sentence when she appeared before Leicester Crown Court earlier and ordered to repay £10,000 at the rate of £300 a month.

She admitted defrauding the Post Office out of £29,500, by reversing financial transactions while working as a counter clerk at the High Street branch, between February 2016 and September last year.

Powell, of Cromwell Close, Walcote – who had been warned the crime warranted imprisonment – has also been ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work.

The Court heard
