Flood Alert Issued For Rivers

Written by on 19th December 2024

A Flood Alert has been issued for rivers in the Harborough area following heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours.

Water levels have risen in the River Welland through Market Harborough, the River Jordan, from Braybrooke through Little Bowden to the town; and on the River Sense in the Great Glen area.

With regards the Rivers Welland and Jordan, a spokesperson for the Environment Agency said: “Over the last 24 hours we have seen heavy rainfall in the River Welland area.

“This means that the rivers are now rising, which will lead to flooding of low-lying land and roads close to the river from this morning Thursday 19 December onwards.

“We expect the river to remain high throughout today and flooding to gardens, driveways or outhouses is possible close to the river.

“Our forecasts indicate that flooding inside properties isn’t likely and therefore flood warnings are not expected to be issued.

“Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.
