Firefighters rescue boy after fall in Harborough village

A teenage boy had to be rescued by firefighters after falling down an embankment and breaking his leg near open water in Broughton Astley.
Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service was called to Broughton Way at 1.30pm yesterday to assist the East Midlands Ambulance Service after the boy became injured in a difficult-to-reach location.

Fire crews from Lutterworth and Southern Fire Stations, including the specialist Technical Rescue Team, reached the casualty by crossing open fields.
A 19-metre ladder was positioned from a bridge above the embankment, allowing the rope rescue team to safely bring the teenager to safety.
He was then placed in the care of East Midlands Ambulance Service crews for treatment.
The incident was brought to a close shortly after 3.15pm.
