Driver Crashes During Police Pursuit

A man was injured after the driver of a car crashed into other vehicles while being pursued by police in Lutterworth last night.

He was taken to hospital following the collision near the Lidl supermarket on Rugby Road and three men were arrested.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police told HFM: “Just after 8.15pm yesterday (Wednesday 26 March) officers identified a blue Volkswagen Golf which was believed to be on cloned plates and linked to a burglary in Northamptonshire.

“A request was made for the car to stop, but the driver failed to do so and a pursuit was authorised.

“A short time later, the Golf collided with other vehicles in Rugby Road, Lutterworth.

“A 40-year-old man – the driver of another vehicle involved in the collision – was taken to hospital, where he is continuing to receive treatment.”

A helicopter from the National Police Air Service was scrambled to assist on the ground.

A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and burglary dwelling and theft.

A 40-year-old man was arrested in suspicion of burglary, theft of a motor vehicle, failing to stop and dangerous driving.

An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle.

All remain in custody as an investigation by Northamptonshire Police continues.

The road was closed for a time following the collision.
