Disappointment After ‘Notes Of Hope’ Removed From A14 Bridge

Small notes that were placed on the railings of a bridge over the A14 – aimed at preventing suicides – have been removed after being deemed a distraction to drivers.

The ‘Notes Of Hope’ were the work of Charlotte Palmer and some of her friends, who wanted to do something to try to stop people jumping off the bridge at Rothwell.

Messages on the included ‘The Storm Does Pass,’  ‘You Are Not a Waste of Space,’ ‘You Are worth it,’ as well as helpline numbers.

Highways England took them down yesterday, with those involved in making and putting them up left ‘extremely disappointed.

A Highways England spokesperson said: “We’re supportive of measures that can be taken to reduce suicides and are working on strategies with experts in this field.

“We’ll look into the circumstances at this particular location.”
