Council Tax Bills Set To Rise

We can expect another rise in our Council Tax bills next year.

Leicestershire County Council is set to increase its share by 3.99%, which equates to just over £4 more a month for the average household.

That would raise an additional £12m to support vulnerable people – £5m of that would be used to support the rise in people needed adult social care and £6m supporting the growing number of children in care.

The authority’s budget plans reveal it needs to make savings of £74m between 2019 and 2023.

Meanwhile, we’re been asked whether we’d support paying more for Policing across Harborough in the next year.

Police and Crime Commissioner Willy Bach is considering making homeowners pay up to £2 more a month.

He says he has little option but to contemplate increasing the policing element of Council Tax bills, due to reduced government funding for Leicestershire Police.

This is in line with what the Government has said it expects PCCs across the country to do.

Cash-strapped Northamptonshire County Council is proposing a 2.99% increase in its share of Council Tax, while Northamptonshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner is considering making residents pay an extra £1 a week.

Harborough District Council, Kettering Borough Council and Daventry District Councils have yet to reveal their proposals.
