Council probing reports of unwell dogs in Market Harborough

Harborough District Council says it is making enquiries after reports that a number of dogs have become unwell in the Market Harborough area.
The council said it is looking into information and evidence available and is liaising with relevant partners following concerns raised by pet owners on social media.
Residents have reported cases of pets suffering symptoms including sickness, diarrhoea and bleeding, with some owners fearing a toxic substance could be responsible. The cause has not been confirmed.

Cllr David Page, Cabinet Lead for Neighbourhood Services, said: “We are aware of concerns circulating on social media regarding reports that a number of dogs have become unwell in the Market Harborough area.
“At this stage, Harborough District Council is making enquiries and looking into any information and evidence that may be available. We are also liaising with relevant partners.”
He urged anyone with first-hand information, evidence or concerns about a suspected poisoning incident to report it directly to the council or Leicestershire Police.
Cllr Page added: “We understand this is concerning for pet owners and local residents. However, it is important that conclusions are not drawn until the facts have been established.”
The council says information can be reported to its Community Safety Team at communitysafety@harborough.gov.uk, while suspected criminal activity should be reported to Leicestershire Police.
