Controversial Development Plan Receives Backing

A controversial plan that will map out where nearly 100,000 new homes will go in Leicestershire over the next 18 years, – including around 12,000 in the Harborough District – has received the backing of Harborough Council.

It’s underpinned by the creation of a southern bypass for Leicester – called the A46 Expressway – which is likely to pass close to several villages including Scraptoft, Great Glen and Burton Ovary, although the exact route has not yet been announced.

Despite opposition Liberal Democrat councillors and some Conservatives refusing to support the so-called Strategic Growth Plan at a meeting last night, the plan was backed by the majority of members.
