Arrest After Three Arson Attacks In Husbands Bosworth

A man’s been arrested after a family escaped a fire at their flat in Husbands Bosworth, after an arsonist struck three times in the village late yesterday and early today.

A wheelie bin and two cars were set alight outside the property in Mowsley Court, with the fire spreading to the building, which has been left badly damaged.

The occupants, including a young children, were able to get out after being woken by a smoke alarm.

Firefighters were dealing with a van on fire in near-by Church Street when they were alerted to the blaze, having first been called to the Brook House Care Home on Bell Lane, where a large bin had been set on fire outside.

Crew prevented it from spreading to the building, although some minor damage was caused.

The 35-year-old man from Gloucestershire is being questioned on suspicion of Arson With Intent To Endanger Life.

The fires happened between 11pm and 1am – and Police are appealing for information.

Detective Constable Chantel Booth, the investigating officer, said: “We believe that these incidents are linked to one another and our enquiries are continuing.

“I’m particularly keen to speak to anyone who was in either Bell Lane, Mowsley Road or Church Street either last night or in the early hours of this morning and who saw or heard anyone acting in a suspicious manner.

“Whether you saw something yourself, or you have CCTV or dashcam footage that has picked anything up, I’d like to speak to you.”

A 35-year-old man from Gloucestershire has today (Thursday) been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life. He remains in custody.
