Appeal For Support During National Hygiene Week

The Hygiene Bank in Market Harborough is appealing for donations of toiletries and household products during national Hygiene Week.

Volunteers work with nine partner organisations to support people and families struggling to afford basic items, like deodorant and toothpaste.

There are donation points in shops in Market Harborough and at a number of pop-up locations throughout this week.

This week, the charity is looking to boost donations ahead of the school summer holidays.

Founder Judy Rowley said: “With children at home for six weeks, it’s a particularly challenging time for families in need.

“After a particularly busy period of providing products to our partners in combination with a drop in donations over the last couple of months, we will be very grateful for any help people can give us as we stock up to help those who will be struggling to make ends meet over the summer.”

Currently, the Hygiene Bank most urgently needs men and women’s deodorant, shaving foam, toothpaste and hair products including scrunchies, hair ties, brushes and combs.

It does not currently require toothbrushes, bars of soap, nappies, period products, baby wipes or toilet roll.

Donations of products, which must be unused and unopened, can be left at the designated donation points in the following locations:

• Sainsbury’s St Mary’s Place, Market Harborough
• Boots, St Mary’s Place, Market Harborough
• Co-op, The Commons, Market Harborough
• Co-op, Kibworth
• Co-op, Fleckney (village aid box)

The following donation points are also available during National Hygiene Week:

• Desborough Leisure Centre (5th – 11th July)
• Ashley Way collection (10th July) (please leave donations outside)
• Berry Close, Great Bowden (11th July)
• Northfield Avenue, Great Bowden (7th & 8th July)
• Glebe Road, Little Bowden, (5th – 9th July, 4-7pm)
