Air Pollution in Kibworth

Proposals to reduce dangerous levels of air pollution in Kibworth are the focus of a public consultation there today.
Representatives from Harborough District Council are at the Kibworth Grammar School Hall between 10 and 4 to give villagers more details about the ‘Air Quality Action Plan’. It’s after tests along the A6 showed that levels of Nitrogen Dioxide – caused mainly by vehicle exhaust fumes – are consistently breaching recommended health guidelines.
Over 24,000 thousand vehicles a day now travel along this stretch of the A6 between the Wistow Road roundabout and Church Road.
The plan includes potential junction improvements – to reduce queuing traffic – and taking the pollution issue into account when considering planning applications for new homes.
20 existing properties are included in the so-called ‘Air Quality Management Area’.
