It is hoped the future of the Harborough Mail has been secured after its owner went into administration.

A newly formed company JPi Media has bought out Johnston Press.

It says it will take-on all employees and continue to publish the newspaper, as well as over 200 other local titles across the country, including the Northamptonshire Telegraph and Northampton Chronicle and Echo.

However, The National Union of Journalists says it still has “significant concerns” about the long-term intentions of the new owners and is seeking an urgent meeting with them.

The Harborough Mail has been published since 1854, although Johnston shut the office on Northampton Road in 2014.
