Facelift Plan For Former Joules Shop in Market Harborough

The historic former Joules shop in Market Harborough could be given a facelift under newly submitted plans.
The Grade II listed building on the High Street has been empty since Joules relocated from the premises last year.
The Market Harborough and The Bowdens Charity, which owns the property, has applied for permission to carry out repairs and refurbishment to the building.

The proposals include repairing and refurbishing the existing timber-framed shopfronts, conserving the main High Street façade and repairing the upper-floor timber windows.
Limited internal work is also proposed, involving the removal of modern, non-significant parts of the building.
The plans say the work is intended to better reveal the historic character of the property, while retaining historic features wherever possible.
No changes are proposed to the overall form, scale or historic layout of the listed building.
The application describes the work as a standalone package of conservation and repair, separate from any wider redevelopment plans for the site.
There are currently no details about a potential new use or occupier for the premises.
Planning permission is required because the building is Grade II listed and lies within the Market Harborough Conservation Area.
The application will be considered by Harborough District Council.
