More than £150,000 has been awarded to Harborough District Council to help tackle homelessness and support rough sleepers.

The funding is part of a government pledge, led by Prime Minister Andy Burnham, to ensure every rough sleeper in England is offered help and accommodation this winter.

The council says the funding will be allocated over three year

The council says the funding will be allocated over three years, allowing it to work with partners to provide positive interventions and make effective use of the money.

A government snapshot taken last autumn recorded three rough sleepers in the Harborough district.

While rough sleeping remains low, statutory homelessness and requests for housing support across Harborough have risen significantly in recent years, with around 182 households receiving temporary accommodation and 640 seeking homelessness advice in the latest recorded periods.

More than £3 million has also been awarded to councils in Northamptonshire from the same funding pot.
