Market Harborough teen boosts charity challenge

Written by on 1st August 2026

A Market Harborough teenager halfway through a 500-mile running challenge is swapping his trainers for a bike today to raise even more money for charity.

Will O’Connor has completed 226 miles of his 80-day challenge and has already raised more than £2,000 for HOPE Against Cancer.

Today, Will and his colleagues at the Fat Face store on the High Street are taking turns on a static bike throughout the day to help boost his fundraising total:

Will, 18, began the challenge shortly after finishing his A-levels and has been fitting in early morning runs during the recent hot weather while continuing to work part-time at Fat Face.

Fitness coach and TV personality Joe Wicks has also shared words of encouragement for Will as his challenge has gathered momentum.

HOPE Against Cancer funds more than 100 local research projects across Leicestershire and Rutland. The charity also supports a dedicated clinical trials centre at Leicester Royal Infirmary, helping improve cancer treatment and access to new therapies.
