Work Begins On New EV Charging Hub in Market Harborough

Work has started on a new electric vehicle charging hub at The Commons car park in Market Harborough.

Contractors moved onto the site yesterday to begin installing the new facility, which will feature 12 electric vehicle charging points, a solar canopy and battery storage.

The section of the car park next to the Co-op store has been closed while the work is carried out, with the project expected to be completed by mid-September.

The scheme is designed to support greener travel, with more than 3,100 electric vehicles now registered in the Harborough district – the highest number in Leicestershire.

The charging hub forms part of a wider £2.4 million programme led by Harborough District Council to expand electric vehicle charging infrastructure across Leicestershire in partnership with neighbouring councils.

The council has warned motorists to expect some temporary disruption during the work, including reduced parking spaces and construction activity.

Disabled motorists can continue to park in any space free of charge for up to three hours, provided they display a valid Blue Badge and parking clock.
