Staff at Kibworth Wildlife Hospital Face Abuse Amid Full Capacity

Leicestershire Wildlife Hospital in Kibworth has appealed for kindness after staff were subjected to verbal abuse when the charity was forced to close to new admissions.

The hospital says it has reached full capacity and is currently caring for hundreds of animals, including more than 50 being hand-reared.

In a statement, the charity said: “This has sadly left our team dealing with a lot of abuse on the phone lines which is simply not acceptable and will not be tolerated.”

It added: “Closing to new admissions is not a decision we took lightly but we are bursting at the seams. Our team are running around all day long ensuring our patients are well cared for.”

Staff say the workload continues beyond normal hours, with intensive care needed for some animals. The hospital said: “Our team are currently hand rearing over 50 patients which requires some feeds every 30 minutes from 6am till 10pm.”

The charity says it is still offering advice over the phone but has urged people to remain respectful towards staff.

It added: “We are still providing advice on the phone, but please do not take this as an opportunity to shout at our team. We are working as fast as we can so that we can reopen on Wednesday.”

The hospital hopes to reopen to admissions tomorrow once space has been created through animal releases.
