Police warn over tampering with signs during A14 closure

Northamptonshire Police are urging people not to interfere with road signs near Harrington following a series of incidents.

The warning comes after diversion signs linked to overnight closures of the A14 eastbound between Junctions 2 and 3 were repeatedly moved from their authorised positions and placed in the road.

Officers say the actions pose a serious danger to drivers and amount to a criminal offence, which could result in fines or imprisonment.

Kettering Neighbourhood Policing Sergeant Oliver Quinlan said: “Road signs are positioned carefully to maximise safety and visibility.  Moving them may appear harmless to those responsible. However, it not only undermines the diversion in place, but their actions are also putting the lives of road users at risk.”

Police say additional patrols will be carried out in the area.
