£5m Boost Set For Highway Improvements

Plans have been announced for highway and transport infrastructure improvements in Market Harborough costing over £5m.
Leicestershire County Council is set to spend the funding on schemes to increase capacity at key junctions, like where Northampton Road meets Springfield Street and Welland Park Road, as well as boosting walking and cycling connections, improving some bus stops and more CCTV for traffic monitoring and incident management.

The majority of the money has been provided by housing developers who have built in the town in recent years, while Leicestershire County Council is set to put £1m towards the various measures.
Some of the work was recommended in the Market Harborough Town Centre Transport Strategy several years ago.
Members of the council’s Cabinet will be asked to approve the creation of the ‘Market Harborough Programme’ at a meeting tomorrow with the funding to be made available over the next six years.
