‘Tiny Forests’ To Be Created In Harborough District

Tennis-court sized areas of woodland known as ‘Tiny Forests’ are set to be created in two parts of the Harborough District.

Areas on The Headlands in Market Harborough and Devitt Way in Broughton Astley have been selected for the project, which will see hundreds of fast-growing trees put in the ground.

The mini forests are based on the work of pioneering Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki, whose work regenerating forests on degraded land started in the 1970s.

Funding of £60,000 has been awarded to Harborough District Council for the initiative, aimed at supporting wildlife and helping people connect with nature.
