Influx Of Baby Hedgehogs Admitted To Wildlife Hospital

Leicestershire Wildlife Hospital in Kibworth is caring for over 100 orphaned hedgehogs.

The mild weather is recent weeks is thought to be behind the influx, with around five baby hedgehogs a day arriving after being found by people on roads, pavements and gardens during the day.

Some have also been dropped off at the hospital after being found at night, but people are being urged not to do this unless it is obvious the animal is struggling.

Dependent on temperatures and circumstances, some of the hedgehogs maybe released in the coming weeks, or remain at the hospital until the spring.

The hospital is appealing for donations of food for the hedgehogs like meaty loaf cat and dog food or meaty cat biscuits, as its stocks are starting to run low.
