Young Woman Who Escaped War In Ukraine Arrives In Market Harborough

A young woman who escaped the war in Ukraine has arrived to stay with family members in Market Harborough.

20-year-old Valeriia fled the fighting in her home town near Kyiv and travelled to the UK through a government scheme, leaving other members of her family behind.

Valeriia was among those at a fundraising event in the town centre on Saturday for the Disasters Emergency Committee Ukraine Appeal.

She is staying with her aunt Natalya Mc Ternan, who is also from Ukraine and has lived in Market Harborough for the past eight years.

Nearly £2,000 was raised at Saturday’s Hfm-backed event, which saw musicians performing on The Square.
