Harborough Primary Schools’ Trust Issues Statement

Some children won’t be able to return to school in and around Market Harborough tomorrow.

The Learn Academies Trust say although all its 11 sites will re-open following a teacher training day today, some members of staff have followed union advice in relation to concerns about Covid-19 and asked for amendments to their working arrangements.

As a result, some classes at certain schools will only be open to the children of key workers and those deemed vulnerable, with remote learning provided to youngsters told to stay at home.

The Trust says parents of youngsters who will be affected have been contacted and it is continuing to monitor developments at national and local level. while remaining committed to following official guidance and relevant laws in order to keep staff, children and their families as safe as it can during this difficult time.

Stef Edwards, Learn-AT’s Trust Leader, said: “It is an exceptionally worrying time for everyone at the moment, in schools, and across our communities.

“In Learn-AT we remain committed to doing our very best to look after our staff, our pupils and families. I want to thank everyone who is working so hard to keep our wonderful schools open and as safe as we can possibly make them.’

The Trust adds it continues to take the above approach until such time as the government instructs primary schools to close to all but vulnerable pupils and the children of key workers, or staffing levels fall below the level at which it is safe for our school to remain open.
