Concern At Speeding Lorries & Goods Vehicles On A14

Police say it is ‘very disappointing’ drivers of 42 lorries and goods vehicles were caught speeding on a dangerous stretch of the A14.

One light good vehicle was clocked at 91mph on the eastbound carriageway near Welford, during the first of new safety camera checks – the legal limit for lorries and goods vehicles is 60mph.

23 lorry drivers were not wearing seatbelts and 26 car drivers snapped by a mobile enforcement van – the highest speed recorded was 93mph.

All have been reported for the driving offences following the checks, that lasted one hour, 45 minutes.

Northamptonshire Police’s Safer Road Team have added the site near junction one to their regular enforcement operations because of the high number of fatal and serious injury collisions on the stretch of the road.
