Investigation After Man Dies On M1 Near Lutterworth

An investigation is underway after a man was killed in a collision with a lorry while walking along the M1 near Lutterworth last night.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, on the southbound carriageway,, close to junction 20.

An investigation into the circumstances of the collision has been launched by Leicestershire Police, who have also referred it to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, as the man had had “prior contact” with officers.

A spokeswoman for the force said: “Shortly before 7pm on Thursday (August 27) we received a report of a pedestrian in the southbound carriageway close to junction 20.

“Officers and colleagues from East Midlands Ambulance Service attended and found a man in the road with serious injuries.

“He was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The road was closed for a number of hours and has since been reopened.

“Given the man had been in prior contact with police, a referral is being made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.”
