Officers didn’t find anyone when they attended the beauty spot, although have issued a warning about the dangers of such actions, as well as swimming in open water.

A Police spokesman said: “We would like to take this opportunity to remind people of the dangers of swimming in the locks, canals and other open water. It may appear safe on the surface, but you cannot see what lurks beneath.”

Meanwhile, a ‘suspicious package’ left on The Square in Market Harborough was investigated by Police yesterday afternoon.

It turned out to be a bag containing the unusual combination of cigars and rings.

Officers are keen to hear from whom it belongs to so it can be returned – contact Market Harborough Police Station.
