Warning After Dog Dies In Kibworth

A symptom of Alabama Rot

Dog owners are being warned to be on guard after a pet in Kibworth died from Alabama Rot.

The animal is among 33 dogs to have died from the disease across the UK this year – already more than recorded in the whole of 2019.

Alabama Rot is a disease that affects all breeds of dogs and if not spotted early, can lead to sudden and potentially fatal kidney failure.

Experts, who are trying to pin-point what causes it, say there is no need for owners to panic, as cases remain rare, although are urging them to remain vigilant and seek advice from a vet if their pet develops unexplained skin lesions, that isn’t caused by a known injury.

The RSPCA says although is extremely difficult to give advice about how to avoid Alabama rot, it is advisable to wash off all mud from dogs following a wet and muddy walk, especially through woodland.
