Bid To Deal With Drugs Concerns At Flats

Bosses from Harborough Council and a housing association have met over drugs concerns at a block of flats in Market Harborough.

They have responded to worries from tenants living at the Northbank complex off Coventry Road about criminal activity.

Platform Housing Group, which owns and manages the block, is to introduce a new lettings policy as a result of the meeting which it says will better ensure the safety of all living there.

Last month Police removed a number of people from a flat that was believed to have been taken over by a County Lines drugs gang at the expense of the tenant, who was deemed vulnerable.

The flats will also now have a dedicated housing officer so regular inspections of properties can take place.

Cllr Phil King, Leader of Harborough District Council, said: “It is important that we do all we can to protect potentially vulnerable people in our district, and I am pleased that a meeting has taken place and a positive way forward has been agreed.”

Marion Duffy, Chief Operating Officer at Platform Housing Group, said: “We will continue to do all we can to tackle the anti-social behaviour issues at Northbank flats. Working with the local Police and Harborough District Council we are committed to taking appropriate action to protect our customers.”
