Meanwhile Leicestershire County Council says it’s awaiting more details of extra money to tackle potholes and pay for road maintenance.

The County will get a share of £2.5 billion to undertake long-term resurfacing works following the Chancellor’s announcement.

Blake Pain, acting deputy leader for Leicestershire County Council, said: “We welcome the announcement in the Budget, but we’re still awaiting further detail.

“We’re determined to tackle potholes and the most effective way is to carry out preventative work to stop them forming in the first place. This funding announcement will support that work.”

The county council announced its own budget plans last month and has committed more than £7m to road maintenance next year.
