Recycling Video Released

The former leader of Harborough District Council has a starring role in
a new video about recycling.
Blake Pain – who’s now a cabinet member for Environment and Transport at
Leicestershire County Council – is fronting an awareness campaign to
make sure we recycle our waste items properly.
The two-minute video gives a behind the scenes look at what happens to
residents’ recycling – and focuses on the three main contaminants
spoiling Harborough’s recycling bins; dirty nappies, textiles and food
waste.
The Council reveals that, across Leicestershire, up to 4,000 used
nappies, a tonne of food waste, and countless articles of clothing have
to be extracted from piles of recyclables each month – often by hand –
costing the council around £500,000 a year to dispose of when we put
“the wrong things in the wrong bin”.
