Tributes are being paid to popular Market Harborough man who died suddenly last week.

Stevan Preocanin, who was 61, was discovered collapsed in Symington Way, a route he often took home, last Sunday morning and was pronounced dead at the scene.

He has been described as a ‘wonderful, happy, hard-working lovely man’ by his wife, Sandra, who added his old-fashioned values made him a ‘true gentleman.’

The couple married last year after being together for the past 14 years.

Stevan was a well-respected and liked Prison Officer at HMP Gartree, where he’d worked for the same length of time.

Paying tribute, Acting Deputy Governor Matthew Davies said: “Stevan had a strong and honest work ethic and was always willing to help.

“He was a well-respected and liked member of staff and had a good sense of humour, which his peers appreciated, and he was a valued member of the team. He will be greatly missed by all at Gartree.”

On the evening before he was found, Stevan had been with work colleagues in the town centre, who had gathered to pay tribute to a former prison worker who had recently passed away.

An inquest into his death has been opened and adjourned – Police are not treating it as suspicious and the cause of death is still to be established.
