A shortage of school crossing supervisors means children and parents are having to fend for themselves outside six of our schools.

Information obtained by Hfm shows there has been no lollipop lady or man at the Market Harborough C of E Primary Acadamy since last March, Ridgeway Primary Academy has been without one since July 2018 and Little Bowden Primary since last February.

All Saints Primary in Lubenham lost its lollipop lady, Stell Dalby, in May 2017 and the position has remained unfilled ever since, and there are further vacancies in Broughton Astley and Lutterworth.

Stell told Hfm she was forced to give-up because some drivers failed to stop for her:

A Leicestershire County Council spokesperson said: “We are running the event due to there being a number of school crossing patrol vacancies in the Market Harborough area and we want to promote these opportunities.

“If successful, this will be considered for other areas in the county. Anyone interested in the roles or would like to find out more can call 0116 305 6515 or email scpservice@leics.gov.uk.”
