The plan for 2,750 new homes on a massive area of land next to the M1 near Lutterworth is a step closer today.

A planning application for the new town development, on 516 acres of fields, has been handed to Harborough Council.

It includes two primary schools, employment sites, a country park and other community facilities, in what would be one of the biggest schemes of its kind in the District and see Lutterworth expanded on a major scale.

Leicestershire County Council is behind the plan – it owns most of the land and says it would expect to generate at around £30 million from selling plots to house builders if permission is granted, which would be invested into front-line services.
