Pensioner Has Handbag Stolen

A thief stole an elderly woman’s handbag while she was in Market Harborough café bar yesterday.

It contained a large sum of money that the 70-year-old had just withdrawn from the Market Harborough Building Society, medication, asthma inhalers, two mobile phones and other items, including a small black book, that she had written down the titles of all the books she had read in, going back years.

The large black handbag was snatched from a chair inside Enigma on Coventry Road sometime between 11.45am and 12.15pm.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the theft and the victim – from Little Bowden – is asking people to keep an eye out for the bag which could have been dumped somewhere in the town centre.
