A new footbridge has been installed as another milestone in the £53m upgrade of Market Harborough railway station was completed yesterday.

Once in operation – when new platforms open later this year – it will mean for the first time disabled passengers will no longer have to be pushed across the tracks to get to the Southbound platform, as lifts will be installed.

It will also improve access for those with other mobility problems and people with pushchairs.

Network Rail is continuing work on laying the new straighter track approaching the station – it will be connected during a six day closure of the tracks at the end of May.
