Major Cut To Bus Services

The number of buses serving the Southern Estate in Market Harborough has been dramatically cut.

A new timetable has come into force today, with operator Arriva reducing the number of its X3 services serving the estate from 26 a day to 8, with none between 10am and 4pm.

A petition signed by over 360 people who used the bus, calling on an additional lunchtime journey to be included, was handed into the company last week.

Those who rely on the bus to get to and from the town centre now have to wait hours to get back.

It comes as Harborough Council announces it is to set up a new body in a bid to have more of a say on local bus services.

It’s hoped by forming the Strategic Public Transport Partnership, the authority will be better informed of any potential cuts and be able to try and mitigate them.

Meanwhile, what will happen to the number number 33 town centre service and the 44 towards Foxton and Fleckney is still not known, after the current Leicestershire County Council-subsidised contract runs out in June.
