Witness Appeal After Fatal Crash On A6 Bypass

Police are appealing for witnesses after a motorcyclist died in a head-on crash on the A6 Market Harborough bypass on Saturday.

Emergency services were called to the collision involving a yellow and black Yamaha motorbike and a grey Volkswagen Passat car at 2.20pm yesterday.

The rider, a man in his 40s, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

A 46-year-old man from Leicester was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

The collision happened between Rockingham Road/A427 roundabout and the McDonald’s roundabout, when the car was travelling north and the motorbike in the opposite direction.

Leicestershire Police are especially keen to speak to people who stopped at the scene of the crash, but left prior to officers arriving.

Det Con Anna Andrew, from the force’s serious collision investigation unit, said officers: said: “We are aware there were motorists at the scene who left prior to police arrival who may have key information to provide. This included a white coloured van.

“Any information may help our investigation.

“I’d like to speak to anyone who was in the area of the A6 Harborough on Saturday afternoon (31 May) and who may have seen these two vehicles prior to the collision.

“We are working to piece together the movement of both vehicles to understand how this collision happened.

“If you had any dashcam footage that may show these two vehicles, then please get in touch.”

The road was closed for several hours following the crash to allow for collision investigation work to take place.
