A religious festival for members of the gypsy and traveller community is to return to Market Harborough for a third year.

The Light and Life Church Convention will be held from at the Showground from July 19th until July 25th and is set to attract around 3,000 people.

The event will include church and prayer meetings in a large marquee, children’s events, gospel music and song, and Bible study groups.

Last year a number of residents from Market Harborough visited the event and businesses reported a boost in trade, with festival-goers visiting shops and restaurants in the town centre.

Harborough District Council will organise meetings ahead of the event and Cllr Phil Knowles, leader of the council said: “As in previous years, the council will be facilitating event planning meetings with the event organisers and key agencies, including the police, to ensure robust plans are in place to support the smooth running of the event for our residents and businesses.

“We will also hold a meeting with local businesses as it’s important that businesses have the opportunity to raise any questions they have and make preparations for the increase in numbers of people in the local area.”
