Wistow Maze to celebrate Sir David Attenborough with giant gorilla design

Wistow Maze near Kibworth will reopen later this month with a special tribute to one of Leicestershire’s most famous figures.

The popular summer attraction has been designed in the shape of a mountain gorilla to mark Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday.

The broadcaster and naturalist grew up in Leicester, and this year’s design was chosen following a public vote.

Owner Diana Brooks told HFM the team wanted this year’s design to celebrate Sir David’s contribution to wildlife and conservation:

The giant maze features more than three miles of pathways, along with high-level bridges and towers, challenging visitors to find their way through the design.

There is also a range of activities in the Funyard, including mini mazes, a space-hopper track, hoopla and a football shooting game.

Diana told us how the eight-acre maize maze is created each year:

At the end of the season, the maize is harvested and used as cattle fodder, before the maze is redesigned the following spring using GPS satellite technology.

Wistow Maze will open from Monday 20 July until Sunday 6 September, with an additional weekend opening on 12 and 13 September.

The attraction will be open daily from 10am until 6pm, with free parking available.

• Family ticket (2 adults + 2 children): £37

The Wistow Rural Centre, including a café, garden centre, model village and shops, is also located nearby.
