Wind Turbine Transformed Into Giant Poppy

Written by on 5th November 2020

A wind turbine has been transformed into a giant poppy in support of the Royal British Legion’s annual poppy appeal.

The 125-metre high structure at Swinford windfarm near Lutterworth had a 90-metre wide poppy head projected onto the blades overnight, along with a cascade of poppies falling down the turbine tower.

It was all about promoting the message around this year’s appeal that ‘every poppy counts’ – with many parts of the usual appeal not able to happen because of the pandemic.

Energy company Vattenfall, who operate the site, is a signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant, and highly values the role that former military personnel have played for the UK.

Nearly 10% of its UK workforce currently come from a military background, having developed many of the skills required for careers in the renewable and low carbon energy sectors while serving in the armed forces.
