Wildlife Hospital Issues Hedgehog SOS

Written by on 19th November 2019

The Leicestershire Wildlife Hospital in Kibworth is appealing for support as it cares for over 250 orphaned hedgehogs.

Around ten a day are being dropped off at the rescue centre, with milder weather earlier in the autumn thought to be behind the influx, with babies being born later than normal and then being found on roads and in gardens during the day.

They won’t put enough weight on to survive winter hibernation so will be cared for until they can be released back into the wild in the spring.

Volunteers are the hospital are in urgent need of fleecy blankets, hedgehog food (pate type) strong black bin bags and cash donations to help with medications and other costs.
