Warning After Car Gets Stuck

Severn Trent is warning drivers to observe Road Closed signs after a car got stuck in a hole being dug to house new water pipes.

It happened on Kettering Road in Little Bowden just after 7pm yesterday, when workers had briefly removed barriers to allow a piece of heavy machinery to be moved.

A Renault Megane drove through before one side of it dropped down the 6ft-deep trench.

No-one was injured.

The road remains closed either side of the railway bridge while the water pipe renewal work continues.

A Severn Trent Water spokesman told Hfm: “We’re investing around £2 million in Market Harborough to upgrade aging water pipes with brand new ones, to ensure customers in the area continue to receive a reliable source of water for generations to come.

“To carry out this vital work, we need to put in place temporary traffic lights and road signs.

“We understand this can be frustrating, but we must display these signs in order to keep our teams, pedestrians and motorists safe. We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation while we’re working in the area.”
