‘Very Disappointing’ Start To Xmas Drink/Drug Drive Campaign

32 drivers have been arrested in the first week of Leicestershire Police’s Christmas drink and drug drive campaign.

Officers say the figures, nearly three times the number during the first seven days of the campaign last December, are ‘concerning and very disappointing.’

22 people failed a roadside breath test for being over the drink drive limit and 10 were arrested for being unfit to drive through drugs – 15 were aged under 30.

Two drivers were found under the influence of cannabis or cocaine when they were stopped by officers in Market Harborough over the weekend and one was more than twice the drink drive limit when pulled over in Broughton Astley.

Jonathan Clarkson is from the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Road Safety Partnership told Hfm the figures are particularly worrying, as pubs across Leicestershire remain closed:
