Transport Cuts For Disabled Youngsters ‘On-Hold’

Controversial plans to remove school transport for disabled teenagers across Leicestershire have been put on hold.

The County Council was due to stop providing taxis and minibuses for youngsters aged 16 to 18 with special educational needs in September.

But it will now continue doing so for another year while the outcome of a legal challenge by parents is considered.

Kyra Williams from Market Harborough has been helping to lead the fight and spoke to Hfm – her disabled daughter Molly would be one of those affected:

A spokesperson for Leicestershire County Council said: “We’re pausing the implementation of the new policy as we want to end the uncertainty for parents and students around their transport arrangements while we await the outcome of the judicial review.

“We’ve written to parents informing them of the decision and included information outlining the choices now available to them. We’re asking them to let us know their preferences around transport as soon as possible by calling 0116 305 0255 or emailing TransportAssessments@leics.gov.uk .”
