Market Harborough could lose its main Post Office.

The branch is currently inside GT News in St Mary’s Place, although the shop is set to close in mid-April.

Unless another retailer is found to move in there and take-on the Post Office services, or they can be provided at another premises, there will no longer be a branch in the town centre.

Post Office bosses say they are working hard to maintain services in the middle of Harborough and are actively seeking business owners interested in running them in the current premises or elsewhere.

A Post Office spokesperson told Hfm: “The Postmaster for Market Harborough has resigned with effect from mid-April.

“We understand how important a Post Office is to a community and we would like to reassure customers that we are working hard to maintain a Post Office in that area.

“Any retailer or small business owner interested in running the Post Office and incorporating it into their business should email NTquestions@postoffice.co.uk or visit www.runapostoffice.co.uk.”

The Post Office has been in St Mary’s Place for the past 25 years.

The James Retail Group, which owns GT News, has refused to comment.
