Students Celebrate Good GCSE Results

Teenagers across Harborough are celebrating good GCSE results.
The pass rate in core subjects has increased this year at Robert Smyth Academy, while students at Welland Park Academy have also achieved well.

The cohort of students had studies disrupted by Covid lockdowns and pupils at Welland Park Academy have also been praised for their results.
There was further improvement to achievements in English and Maths that placed WPA amongst the highest performing schools in Leicestershire in 2024.

Welland Park Academy Principal Pete Leatherland said: “We are immensely proud of our Year 11 students.
“Their results are a true reflection of their perseverance, determination and the unwavering respect they have shown for learning and for one another.
“Today is about celebrating both grades and growth.”
At Robert Smyth Academy, the high level of achievement can be seen both in core subjects like English, which increased its pass rate at grade 4-9 again to almost 90%, but also in optional subjects like Art, in which a quarter of students achieved a grade 9.
The school also appears to be bucking the national trend of boys’ underachievement, with entirely equitable outcomes regardless of gender.
