Shoplifter Caught Red-Handed Given Suspended Sentence

A man caught red-handed by Police stealing a bottle of gin from Sainsbury’s in Market Harborough has been given a 12-week suspended jail sentence.

Gary Parker was arrested outside the Springfield Street store by officers in plain clothes, during an operating targeting shoplifters in September.

The 32-year-old of Jubilee Gardens, appeared before Leicester Magistrates and was found guilty of that and other theft from shop offences, including stealing two bottles of whisky from Waitrose last week.

Chairman of the Bench warned him he now faces jail if he is found guilty of any offence within the next 18 months.
